Once again, Pepe Carretero surprises us with his extraordinary creative personality in this exhibition. Perhaps, such a statement may seem insulting because of its obviousness; however, in view of the current pictorial panorama, it is necessary to make a series of remarks in this respect. Indeed, from very early on, even beyond the years that Carretero lived in Rome, disciplining himself in his self-taught training (1988-1989), our author has been giving a good account of an aesthetic as intimate as singular, rooting in all of this his sense of modernity, of that avant-garde not alien to an exclusive pop identity imbricated in the experiences and assimilation of the well-known Movida madrileña of the eighties, highlighting also for what concerns us the intellectual consequences that that stage projected and fostered. Since then, the brilliant artist from Tomelloso has bet -and risked- on discourses that even today are transgressive and irreverent, just as the artistic Avant-gardes, such as Expressionism or Surrealism, were in the past. It is not in vain that the chromaticism of the works in the current exhibition, in addition to the iconographic repertoires, is even more understandable, if possible, from a post modern re-reading of these references.
