The story
LUCA — Last Universal Common Ancestor: the theory that all life developed from one cell. Pooka — a goblin of fortune from Irish mythology. A meditation on colour, chance, and the moment paint makes something real.
The Pooka has the mindset that it was itself the engineer of the last universal common ancestor. Chief engineer of a cell factory. Splicing life. Laminating. Grafting. A laboratory, a soda factory. Where images fizzed alongside words and that was made real. Cells in cells made of cells. Each layer defined by a sheath.
The Pooka sat in his hut in the middle of an oakwood meditating on the nature of colour and segregating in his mind the cool ones from the warm.
Pookas and paint. Shapeshifters that tangle with the natural order of things. Or lead us to our destiny. Like tarot, we interpret or decipher codes and symbols by way of autosuggestion. It all changes when it's painted. One stroke of colour creates something, destroys something else. Nine swords, a boat, the queen. We put reason to it, the randomness. In the gauntlet the task is always doable. Wander mindlessly, mindfully still. Autofocus. We will get back to the gauntlet when you have decided what that is. It is a code you have to break, a rhythm you used to remember, a colour conceived first in the first womb. That kind ofthing.

Tøn exists for art that stays open — work that questions more than it concludes. We look for contemporary artists who are honest about the search, not just the result. We're always open to those we haven't met yet.
