Francesc Ruiz Abad

In his paintings and drawings, Ruiz Abad examines the themes of replication, repetition, mirror effect, translation, and transfer by using motifs from playful mass-produced items, such as children’s coloring books. He works through associations of ideas and highlights new social paradigms as well as cultural tensions between inherited traditions and contemporary popular culture. His research can take him even further by revealing questions about our relationship with otherness and cultural over- laps, but also the margin of magic that any work, even if non-descriptive, contains.
